Sailing to Copenhagen: Four Finnish design brands join their forces
This summer, Finnish design is setting sail – quite literally. Four bold Finnish brands are boarding Lycka, a classic Hallberg-Rassy 45 yacht, and sailing from Turku to Copenhagen, bringing a touch of Midsummer magic straight to the heart of the 3daysofdesign festival. Behind the journey is the Made by Choice Sailing Society, creating a one-of-a-kind, immersive design experience – a blend of exhibition, adventure, and Nordic atmosphere. When Lycka arrives in the harbor of Copenhagen, it transforms into a floating showroom, showcasing Made by Choice, Essis By Lasilinkki, AITO Sauna and Finarte. The atmosphere is further enriched through a collaboration with Tom’s Oyster Shack, located right by the water’s edge.
This isn’t just about great design – it’s about cozy sauna moments, a touch of Midsummer magic, and that unmistakable Finnish feeling where the doors are open and shoes are optional. This is more than an exhibition – it’s a celebration of values, sustainability, and creativity on the move. Literally.
After last year’s successful pilot, the team returns with bigger plans, more captivating stories, and a dose of hygge infused with the spirit of Helsinki.

Passion and vision -The tools of our craftsmanship
Behind these stunning glass creations are our own master artisans, Sami Hyvärinen and Vladimir Krasnov.
”Craftsmanship is more than just making things – it’s a way of thinking, feeling, and expressing oneself.”
Sami Hyvärinen speaks about the process of making artisan glass with a passion rooted in a deep connection to the material and the freedom of creation:
”It’s been incredibly rewarding to dive fully into the process of crafting artisan glass. Starting from nothing and building something entirely your own – seeing how every step and every choice shapes the final piece – it’s creative play, but also a profound artistic exploration.”
The freedom of custom work allows for visions that mass production simply can’t accommodate. Each piece is one of a kind – born from a dialogue between the artist, the material, and the client. ”The more abstract pieces often come from intuition. That moment when light hits the surface of the glass and brings it to life – it’s magical. Even after all these years, glass still surprises me. There’s something mysterious about it that keeps drawing you in.”
Vladimir – or Vova, as he’s known to many – also sees endless possibilities in artisan glass design. His work radiates precision and refined aesthetics:
”I’m truly proud to be part of creating something that brings joy and serves a purpose in everyday life. I love experimenting – especially with different techniques. I’ve even built equipment for us that allows for more versatile design and production.”
The beauty of custom glass lies in its individuality. Every piece carries a story – the maker’s touch, the mood of the moment, and the client’s wishes.
”Glass can be temperamental at times, and often the biggest lessons come from mistakes. But that’s exactly what makes this so fascinating – you’re never really finished, there’s always something new to discover.”

Opening day, Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, begins with a press-exclusive event from 10:00 to 12:00. The area opens to the public at 12:00, inviting design enthusiasts to explore until 21:00. ”Meet the Designer” – Tekla Evelina Severin, the designer behind Essis Collection’s the Play Collection glass tables, will be joining us on-site on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 13:30 to 15:00. A DJ Mashti sets the mood from 18:00 to 20:00, and the sauna will be warm all day (further instructions coming soon).

On Thursday, June 19th, visitors can immerse themselves in unique design experiences from 10:00 to 21:00.
In the evening, from 17:00 to 21:00, get ready to party! The Aito Sauna will be hot, there will be a towel for you, but bring a swimsuit if you’re in the mood for a dip.
Drinks and snacks from the Tom’s Oyster Shack andDJ Mashti will set the beats for the night.
Made by Choice will launch a new outdoor furniture collection, Ómós, with Anna–Kaisa Liehu & Rebecca Nordberg.
On Friday 20.6.2025
Friday, June 20th, marks the final day, with doors open to all from 10:00 to 16:00—offering one last chance to dive into the world of Finnish design.
