The dream of Essis Boutique Hotel is now a reality – a celebration of artisanal glass!
Some materials simply fill a space. And then there are those that bring it to life, like Essis artisan glass, which is more than just a surface. It’s a mood-setter and a storyteller.
When artisanal glass shapes the story of a space
Essis Boutique Hotel is more than just a concept, it’s a vision of how a material can carry the dramaturgy of architecture. In collaboration with Jutta Tanninen, we created an imagined hotel setting that not only tells the story of our artisanal glass but also evokes emotion and inspires.
Light, rhythm, and texture speak the same language across the different surfaces of our artisan glass. The result is not merely a visualization, but a cohesive whole that demonstrates how versatile artisan glass truly is and how it performs in a real-world project.
Each rendering has been designed to be fully realizable. We craft our artisan glass by hand, allowing it to be used both as bespoke architectural glass and as a ready-made product. So welcome – join us on a visual journey into our hotel and experience the story our glass has to tell.
Behind the design
The collaboration with Jutta Tanninen on the CGI visualizations came naturally – as she was already familiar with Essis’s artisan glass through our showroom partnership and previous client projects. For Essis, it was essential to work with a designer who truly understands the beauty, texture, and story of artisanal glass, someone who is already part of that narrative.
Artisan glass is more than just a material. It’s a feeling, a mark of design craftsmanship, and a reflection of three generations of family entrepreneurship. Each piece is unique, handcrafted, and far from mass production. We want to invite more people into this story and offer them the chance to write their own chapter in our 40-year journey.
Jutta had long dreamed of designing a boutique hotel. Essis Boutique Hotel was born from imagination and the inspiration of glass – a space where every detail tells a story. Artisan glass surprises with its versatility: beyond our ready-made collections, custom glass opens up entirely new perspectives in interior design.
”In interiors, I’m drawn to layering, surprise, and the meeting of old and new. My favorite destination is the Swedish hotel Ett Hem, which was a strong influence when shaping Essis Boutique Hotel concept. What fascinates me about artisan glass is its texture and how light plays across the surface – at times, the glass seems almost alive, like rippling water,” Jutta shares her design thinking.
For Jutta, designing the CGI visuals was a chance to explore even her boldest ideas. The Essis team refined those visions into realizable concepts with uncompromising craftsmanship, while the 3D artists pushed boundaries with innovative work never seen before – artisan glass truly got its moment to shine in a whole new way.
The goal of Essis Boutique Hotel is to spark ideas and inspire, especially among international interior architects, designers, and design media who may not yet be familiar with Essis’s artisan glass potential, not just as a product, but as a material. For Finnish professionals, the project will surely deepen their understanding and open up new perspectives in spatial design.
”It feels like we’ve only scratched the surface. There are endless ideas and possibilities, and that’s what makes this so inspiring. Our artisanal glass isn’t just a beautiful surface, it carries emotion, a story, and the soul of its maker,” says Essi Sundman, the creator of the Essis by Lasilinkki brand.
